Buniyadi Shiksha Abhiyan: Illuminating Foundations, Transforming Futures

Exploring the Profound Impact on Education and Empowerment

Overview

The learning crisis worsened by COVID-19 emphasizes the need for equitable access to quality education. Following New Educational Policy (NEP) 2020, we launched Buniyadi Shiksha Abhiyan (BSA) to address the lack of literacy and numeracy skills in children. Aligned with New Educational Policy (NEP), interventions with district administrations aim to create a comprehensive learning environment through capacity building, functional school processes, Mohalla classes by volunteers, and learning outcome assessments.

Studies show 60% of Grade I students struggle with word problems, and only 50% of Grade III students read at Grade I level, revealing a skills gap. Our initiative aims to enhance primary education quality through Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN). Buniyadi Shiksha Abhiyan (BSA) , via Piramal Foundation, targets 112 Aspirational Districts, establishing one Demo school in each cluster to influence other institutions, disseminate best practices, and improve overall education quality. Supporting Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) Mission, we identified 20,000 demo schools based on infrastructure, enrollment, and Anganwadi presence, aligning with New Educational Policy (NEP) vision.

Significance and Goals

Buniyadi Shiksha Abhiyan aims to boost the Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Mission in 112 Aspirational Districts, focusing on three key areas:

Schools

Enhancing teachers’ and Headmasters’ capabilities, collaborating with NGOs, and utilizing forums and public platforms to promote Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) awareness

Community

Raising awareness, establishing the community as a dedicated learning space, and enhancing parents’ and volunteers’ capacity for blended learning to advance Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) goals

System

Aligning efforts within the system to promote Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) , collaborating with and orienting District Institute for Education and Training (DIET) towards Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) goals, and leveraging public platforms to increase awareness

Elevating Education in Aspirational Districts

The Buniyadi Shiksha Abhiyan program empowers young minds in Aspirational Districts with essential skills. Focusing on basic literacy and numeracy, it aims to enhance foundational education, shaping a child’s learning path. Quality teaching, ongoing professional development, and holistic instruction in engaging classrooms foster students’ cognitive, social, emotional, and physical growth. This ensures a strong educational foundation for a continuous pursuit of significant learning.

The core of Buniyadi Shiksha Abhiyan program centers around community involvement, fairness, and inclusivity. It extends beyond traditional classrooms, forming a lively educational environment. By engaging local communities and encouraging collaboration among parents and guardians, it acknowledges the collective responsibility for a child’s education. The program actively advocates for fairness and inclusiveness, striving to make quality education available to every child, irrespective of their background.

Transforming Education for All

The Buniyadi Shiksha Abhiyan program empowers Aspirational Districts with impactful education. Strategically designed, it targets challenges through early literacy and numeracy. Equipping educators, nurturing holistic development, fostering community engagement, and promoting equity, it builds a strong foundation for brighter futures. Buniyadi Shiksha Abhiyan catalyzes positive change, uplifting education and communities alike.
